Traditional Liposuction vs VASER Liposuction: What’s the Difference?

You are currently viewing Traditional Liposuction vs VASER Liposuction: What’s the Difference?

Are you worried about the excess fat around your belly and other areas?

Looking for a way to get rid of the bulges? Have you ever considered getting liposuction?

Liposuction is one of the most popular procedures in the field of cosmetic surgery. It is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body. This cosmetic surgery can help to contour and reshape your body by removing unwanted fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise.

There are several different types of liposuction available, including traditional liposuction and VASER liposuction.

Not sure if Vaser liposuction or traditional liposuction is the right option for you? Read for the pros and cons of each technique here.

Traditional liposuction:

Traditional liposuction is the most common type of liposuction and has been performed for decades. It involves making small incisions in the targeted area and then using a cannula (a thin, hollow tube) to suction out the excess fat. A tummy tuck may accompany liposuction to remove excess skin stretched by fat.

Vaser liposuction:

Vaser is an acronym for the Vibrational Amplification of Sound Energy in Resonance. Like traditional liposuction, it also removes unwanted fat, but it is a comparatively less invasive procedure and involves a specialized cannula.

How are the two procedures different?

Traditional liposuction:

Traditional liposuction involves making small incisions in the targeted area and then using a cannula (a thin, hollow tube) to manually break up and suction out the excess fat. The cannula is inserted through the incision and moved back and forth to break up the fat cells before suctioning them out. The procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia, and the length of the procedure will depend on the size and number of areas being treated.

Vaser liposuction:

VASER liposuction uses ultrasound energy to break up and liquefy the fat cells before suctioning them out. The procedure begins with the injection of a tumescent solution into the targeted area, which helps to numb the area and minimize bleeding. Then, a small probe is inserted into the area and emits ultrasound energy, which breaks up the fat cells. Finally, a cannula is used to suction out the liquefied fat cells. The length of the procedure will depend on the size and number of areas being treated, but it typically takes less time than traditional liposuction. VASER liposuction is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation, but general anesthesia may also be an option.

What are the pros and cons of traditional liposuction and VASER liposuction?

Both procedures have their advantages and disadvantages. Both traditional liposuction and VASER liposuction are outpatient procedures, with limited downtime and less risk of complications. VASER liposuction has a shorter recovery time and fewer chances of bruising than traditional liposuction. But, VASER liposuction can sometimes cost more than traditional liposuction because of the technology used. When it comes to certain areas of the body, VASER liposuction is often more effective at eliminating hard-to-remove fibrous fat deposits. On the other hand, traditional liposuction may be a better option for removing larger volumes of fat from multiple areas.

Who is an ideal candidate for liposuction?

Dr. Santosh Bhatia has listed down the criteria for an ideal candidate for the liposuction procedure.

Which is better for you - traditional or VASER liposuction?

The decision between traditional liposuction and VASER liposuction ultimately depends on a patient’s individual needs and goals, as well as their personal preferences and budget. A consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon is necessary to determine which type of liposuction is the best option for a patient. During the consultation, the surgeon will evaluate the patient’s medical history, body type, and the specific areas that the patient wants to target. They will also discuss the risks and benefits of each type of liposuction, as well as the expected recovery time and cost. Based on this information, the surgeon can recommend the most suitable type of liposuction for the patient’s individual case. It is important for patients to choose a Board-Certified plastic surgeon with experience in both traditional and VASER liposuction to ensure the best possible outcome.
